Time for our baby's graduation from preschool! Like so many times in the past, it feels especially poignant when Ashby celebrates a milestone because it becomes a milestone for our entire family. Even though she is not going to Kindergarten next year (she's taking a bonus lap in Veritas' K4 class), this is the end of our preschool years. The end of preschool for our family.....wow.
It was sweet to have an evening dedicated to celebrating Ashby, especially because she spends a lot of time going to her brother and sister's events. She didn't talk much about her class' graduation preparations, but she has been very excited about the cookie reception that will follow the ceremony.....clearly she has her priorities. I offered her several dress options to wear, but she emphatically wanted "the poofy one". (Cute to note that this is the same dress that Sadie wore to her preschool graduation.)
Ashby is very social and really enjoys being with friends at school. She loves to read books, has become quite good at coloring and has a very fun imagination and sense of humor. She is not very focused on academic learning yet (still working on learning those letters!), but she loves art projects and playing on the playground. She is always happy to join in a game with other kids, whether she knows them or not.....playing chase is the quickest way to her heart. At home she can be quick to throw a fit or lose her patience if things don't go her way or she feels like her siblings are taking advantage of her, but I don't think that comes out in the classroom.
She looked a little nervous when her class processed into the chapel and quietly sat in her seat watching all of her classmates receive their diplomas. She gave a quick smile when I called her name, but then shook her head at me (ie, "leave me alone momma!") and turned her attention back to the front.
Ashby had been "a little scared" about walking up on the stage to receive a hug and her diploma from her teacher, but she told us later that once she did it "it wasn't so bad." The preschool director read a short note about each student, and Ashby said that her favorite part of school this year was "painting" and that she wants to be "an artist with her sister" when she grows up.
She was pretty quiet when her class was on stage singing their blessing song....their teacher really carried the tune with this shy group.
Ashby was blessed with three wonderful teachers this year.....Mrs. Notley, Mrs. Witthoefft and Mrs. Hines (not pictured). They loved Ashby and genuinely enjoyed and celebrated her throughout the year.
We love our WEPC Preschool graduate!
