This spring we had two soccer players for the first time. Finley has played for several years, and Sadie was finally convinced to give it a try on a team coached by a friend's mom.
Finley liked game day better than practice. He likes the adrenaline of the game, keeping score and is such a good sport to celebrate every goal......whether made by him or a teammate.
He has a lot of strong players on his team and they won all their games, except the last one.
Because we often had two Saturday games back-to-back, we spent more time as a family on the soccer field watching the games and waiting for our turn. Sadie was happy to color while she waited.
The Butterflies
Sadie liked soccer practice more than the games. I think she preferred the social aspect and variety of exercises during practice, but found the need to "go go go" during games more draining and not as fun. That being said, she was an excellent sport and gave it her best effort and attitude every week, even when hot and tired.
She was not that skilled at making a lot of contact with the ball, but she ran her hardest all over that field!
At the end of the season she was glad she had played, but says she doesn't think she will play again in the fall. She told me, "Mommy, between my chores and having a soccer game, it just eats up too much of my Saturday. I want more free time." (So different from her brother, who is always asking what the next planned activity is.)
We were so glad she gave it a try and had a good first (and maybe last) soccer season!
